Selma was preceded in death by her husband James Thomas Gooch; brothers, Robert, Dewey, and Velt Whitmire; children, Linda Christine Payne, Ray Davis Hood, Michael Lee Hood and Dean Keith Gooch. She was also preceded in death by one granddaughter.
She is survived by her daughter Dorothy Ann Ayers; brother, Charles Whitmire; 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be on Friday August 15, 2014 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte NC 28208. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that you make a donation to Hospice of Cabarrus County, 5003 Hospice Lane, Kannapolis, NC 28081.
