Steve C. Horowitz

Affectionately referred to as Papa Gator, Steve treasured his life through spending time with family, beach visits, reading history and mystery novels, getting together frequently with many friends, and of course, most prevalent, practicing tax law.

As the “patriarch of the family,” Steve loved his wife Maxine (of 37 years), their five children, twelve grandchildren, and their adorable golden retriever Shelly. When not falling asleep on the recliner, Steve enjoyed watching and attending college and professional sports. He was an avid Florida Gator fan, who frequently shared his opinions on the team and coach after tough losses!

Professionally, Steve boasted a remarkable career of more than 56 years as a Tax Practitioner. Steve earned a B.A. in Accounting from the University of Florida, a J.D. degree from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and a Masters in Taxation Law from New York University. His career began as a trial attorney with the Office of District Counsel Internal Revenue Service in Greensboro, NC. Following several years of service, Steve moved to private practice, becoming partner in a few firms based in Gastonia and Charlotte.

Throughout his career, Steve became a frequent speaker and discussion leader at tax symposiums, seminars, and meetings for C.P.A.s, attorneys, and local civic groups across North Carolina and other states within the region. His expertise earned respect among his colleagues, having received a litany of honors and awards, including Best Lawyers® Lawyer of the Year in Tax, NC Association of CPA’s Outstanding Discussion Leader, and inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in Tax Law, just to name a few.

Steve will be greatly missed and forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and Papa, a loyal friend, a quiet generous giver in the community, and passionate about his work.
