OBITUARY

Sun Cha Hansell

4 July, 1945 – 2 November, 2024
IN THE CARE OF

McEwen Funeral Service-Derita Chapel

Beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Sun Cha (고순자) Hansell, age 79, passed on to be with the Lord, November 2nd, 2024.

Sun was born and raised in South Korea. She was a loving daughter, and sister to three sisters and two brothers. She married William Henry Hansell in 1966 and mothered three beautiful daughters. She then relocated from Korea to the United States.

She had an enormous love for her Heavenly Father, and found great pleasure singing in her church choir. As a competitive spirit at heart, she loved beating her great-grandchildren and everyone around her in good game of Hwatu (Korean “Flower Battle”) and Phase 10. She loved being around nature, specifically the mountains and the beach, and had the greenest thumb in the family. She was very disciplined in her exercise and known in her community for her walks and daily pool exercises. As the neighborhood “pool therapist, she was an active listener and had her daily crowd waiting for her authentic heart to hearts and “tough love”. She adored taking care of her family, cooking and passing on her Korean recipes and heritage to her family.

She is survived by her three daughters Sharon Kim Hansell, Debra Young Hansell, and Jennifer Su Hansell. As well as her two granddaughters, Christina Lorraine Harmon and Stephanie Anne Shover, and their children, Brayden Isaiah Shover, James Lester Harmon IV, Griffin McKenzie Shover, and Skylar Mae Harmon.

In true representation of her name, she was the “sun”. She was known and loved by all who came in contact with her. She was bright and vibrant, with an enormous personality, filled with a blazing love that will radiate throughout her family for generations.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7: "Love is patient, love is kind; love does not envy, love does not boast, it is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things"
