A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 12:00 pm at Forest Lawn West Funeral and Cremation Service, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Forest Lawn Funeral Service prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
Susan was born January 6, 1942, in Charlotte, NC. She was the daughter of Robert Joel Todd and Susan Emeline Hunter Todd. She graduated from West Mecklenburg High School and Western Carolina College with a degree in Education. While at Western Carolina, she was “Miss Western Carolina”, her senior year, 1963. Susan taught school approximately 10 years. After living in multiple location throughout the Southeast, she retired from teaching and she and her husband “Gus” moved back to North Carolina.
Susan was a beautiful, smart, sweet, and kind person. Everyone who knew her loved being around her. She loved her family, loved to read, and loved growing up in the Paw Creek Community. She grew up attending Paw Creek Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for many years.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, William Frank “Gus” Gustafson, Sr., her son William Frank “Toby” Gustafson, Jr., wife Cathy. Also survived by her brother, Robert Joel Todd, wife Jean, sister Carolyn Todd Summerlin, husband, James. Susan leaves behind 3 grandchildren, John McCoy, Cathie McCoy Pillow, and Rob McCoy, 6 great grandchildren, a nephew, Monty Todd, three nieces, Robin Wodarski, Kim Stewart, and Susan Wallace, 3 great nieces, Jessica Keeler, Camille McAlister and Abby Stewart, great nephews, M.J. Stewart and Logan Wallace, and great, great niece Hayden Grace Keeler.
