

Born April 1, 1938 in Chesterfield County, SC, Mrs. Renegar was a daughter of the late James N. Benton and Ella “Dot” Edelle Gainey Benton. Following graduation from McBee High School, she moved to Charlotte and began her career as a telephone operator with Southern Bell. She was then employed in banking with First Citizens, where she worked until she retired.
Mrs. Renegar was a very active member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte and the Fidelis Sunday School class. Following her retirement twenty years ago, she exemplified her faith by helping congregation members with transportation to and from medical appointments.
Mrs. Renegar will be remembered as a true Southern lady, immaculately dressed, consummate in the keeping of her home and garden, and selfless in her devotion to her family, her friends and her church.
Survivors include her son, Scot Renegar and his wife, Nancy of Chesapeake, VA; her grandchildren, Jackson Renegar of Knoxville, TN and Meredith Renegar of Norfolk, VA; as well as her brother, James M. Benton of South Carolina.
Her husband, George L. Renegar, preceded her in death in 2003.
Mrs. Renegar’s family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 20th at Harry & Bryant Company, 500 Providence Road. A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Michael Cummings officiating. Interment will be in Sharon Memorial Park.
