Terri was born Theresa Lynn Alles on August 10, 1948, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the youngest child of Kenneth Alles and Lucy Dunlap and sister to David and Denny Alles.
Terri enjoyed a rich and accomplished life. After attending the University of Colorado at Boulder, she had an early career in architecture and while living in Denver, met her husband, David Woods. David and Terri were married on July 2, 1976, and raised 2 amazing children Michelle Kathleen Woods Reist and Ross Michael Woods, PhD. After marrying, David and Terri moved to Dallas, Texas where Terri entered the oil and gas business and ultimately retired, after a long and distinguished career, as the Vice President of Human Resources for Hunt Petroleum.
Equally important as her career, were the organizations to which Terri donated her time, including serving as a leader and deacon in the First Christian Church of Irving, Texas where she cultivated a life-long community of friends and servants in Christ. Terri also spent countless hours as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader, including an infamous tour as the Girl Scout “cookie lady”. Later in life, Terri worked hard combating a variety of women’s issues through her work with Dress for Success, the Alliance against Domestic Violence and being a champion against breast cancer.
Upon her retirement in 2007, Terri and David moved from the Dallas area back to Colorado, and chose Buena Vista to make their home. In the 13 years living in BV, Terri and David hosted countless friends and family members to share their warm hospitality at the feet of the Collegiate Peaks. The “Rendezvous Bayou Salade” was a gathering place and heart of the family in which many precious memories were made. In 2019, Terri and David relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, where Michelle and her family live and where they could be only a drive away from Ross and his family in Pennsylvania. The memories made these past two years are cherished.
Terri was a vibrant women who deeply touched everyone she knew. She loved the mountains and was out riding horses into her 70s. She loved to travel and was always planning the next adventure with her dear “Fab Four”. She loved the beach and spent many precious hours there with her granddaughters, always taking in the sunset over the water. Above all, Terri adored her family and friends and left behind a legacy of love and laughter.
Terri is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Woods; her daughter Michelle Reist and her husband Kyle Heinlein; her son Ross Woods and his wife Amanda Woods; her grandchildren Isabel and Ruby Reist and Samantha and Maxwell Woods; and the many siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews and their spouses and children, whom she loved and who will miss her profoundly.
An intimate Family service will be held to honor Terri at McEwen Chapel Pineville, NC on Saturday Jan 16th. Followed by a Celebration of Life to be held in Colorado this summer.
