We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Tyler Anthony Kobelia – a son, brother, uncle, and devoted friend. Tyler, 36, passed away on Wednesday, March 20th, 2024 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia, NC. He was in the company of his loving parents, Cheryl Larson (Kobelia), and Larry Kobelia.
Born December 10th, 1987 in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the firstborn and only son of Larry and Cheryl.
At the age of 12, Tyler was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve with his first tissue replacement valve surgery taking place in January 2013. His second valve replacement took place on Tuesday, March 19th, and while the surgery was long and complicated it was completed as planned. Tyler’s heart was unable to sustain him and comeback after the surgery.
Tyler spent his formative years in Charlotte, NC. Following graduation from South Mecklenburg High School, Tyler furthered his education in college and received a degree in Bachelor of Information Systems and Cyber Security Management. He remained a loyal employee of Global Linking Solutions for 7 years where he was a Director of Security Operations.
Tyler was very talented and pursued many interests, with art and video gaming development defining him to his core. He found joy in creating a home with his three (3) cats, and raising chickens at his 2-acre Dallas, NC home. He was eager to try and learn everything he could and succeeded at anything he put his mind to from building a video game table from scratch to wood-working, and so much more. Tyler’s artistic journey started at a very young age with every school paper turned in having a detailed drawing included. His talent knew no limits as he was able to create tangible and digital mediums to express his imagination. Prior to Tyler’s passing, he was actively creating a comic book with plans to publish.
Most importantly Tyler is known for his kind heart, humor and generosity to his family and friends. Tyler is greatly missed but will forever live on in our hearts.
He is survived by his mother, Cheryl Larson of Holly Ridge, NC and father, Larry Kobelia II of Denver, NC, his Nana-Margie Kobelia of Denver, NC, sisters Morgan Kobelia of Wilmington, NC, and Kaley Walsh (Tyler Walsh); as well as his beloved niece and nephew Phoebe Walsh (2) and Cameron Walsh (7) of High Point, NC. Tyler is preceded in death by his loving Grandparents, Walter J. and Elizabeth L. Larson, and Larry A. Kobelia.
