William Joseph Finley

Bill was born on September 5, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Catherine and John Finley and grew up surrounded by the strong family values that shaped the man he became.

A proud graduate of Cardinal O'Hara High School’s Class of 1968, Bill carried forward a commitment to hard work, integrity, and resilience throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Joanne, and together they built a warm, and joyful home filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Bill was immensely proud of his three children—Bill, Colleen, and Eric—whom he adored and supported endlessly. Family was Bill’s heart, and being a father was one of his greatest joys.

Bill was an honorable and dedicated friend, a devoted husband, and a guiding presence to his family. Those who knew him will remember his genuine demeanor, the way he made everyone feel welcome, and the many memories he shared.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—coaching, fishing, cooking meals to bring people together, and cheering on his beloved Philadelphia sports teams….Go Birds!

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him, and his memory will continue to inspire all who loved him.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine Finley; and sister, Cathy (Jim) McKee.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joanne Finley; children, Bill (Keecha) Finley, Jr., Colleen (Chris) Douma, and Eric (Danielle) Finley; grandchildren, Jamier, Madison and Zoe; and siblings, John (Mary) Finley, Ann Marie (Joseph) Lynskey and Fran Keaveney.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC on December 9, 2025 at 2:00 PM. Bill will be laid to rest immediately following the service at Saint James Catholic Cemetery, located at 2323 Gold Hill Rd, Concord, NC, on December 9, 2025.
