

William "Frankie" Franklin Flanagan, 82, of Huntersville, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025. Born February 21, 1943 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late James W. and Ella Mae (Penninger) Flanagan. He married Miriam Evans on September 4, 1965 in Charlotte and together they shared 59 years of marriage.
Frankie was the owner and proprietor of a successful auto shop where he specialized in building race cars. He also owned and operated an Amoco service station for 10 years. He got his inspiration for drag racing at an early age after visiting the Shuffletown Dragway, winning his first race receiving $35 and a trophy.
For 68 years, drag racing has been his passion. A young man by the name of Dale Earnhardt drove one of Frankies master pieces during his dirt track racing years. He spent many years at the Rockingham Dragway from it's opening day in 1969. He past on his passion of drag racing to his family, especially his son Kurt. Frankies home track is the Mooresville Dragway.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Miriam E. Flanagan; his children, Kelly (Dwight) Flanagan Davis and Kurt (Michelle) Franklin Flanagan; granddaughter, Courtney Davis; sister, Linda Flanagan Clark; nieces, Robbin Clark Jackson and Ginger Clark.
