Bill McKee, 78, passed away peacefully at his Weddington, NC home on September 11, 2012.
Born on June 13, 1934 in the Steele Creek Community of Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Shelly Knox McKee, Sr. and Pearl Anderson McKee. He is preceded in death by his brother Shelly Knox, Jr. and his sister Margaret.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Beth Wilson McKee – daughter Teresa Lee and her husband Tracy, son Bruce and his wife Kim, son David and his wife Sue, and son Dale and his wife Cindy – all of Charlotte. He leaves a rich legacy that includes his seven grandchildren – Nick Joyner, Sarah McKee, Duncan McKee, Reid McKee, Evan McKee, Grace McKee, Ella McKee, and his four step-grandchildren – Mary Allison Lee, Brian Lee, Carolyn Lee and Stephen Lee. He is also survived by his brother Sidney – and by countless people that he touched everyday with his grace, his genuine smile and his beautiful blue eyes.
After graduating from West Mecklenburg High School, he joined the U.S. Navy. Following his Naval service, he returned to Charlotte where he attended Charlotte College (now UNCC) and soon began a rewarding and fulfilling 34-year career with General Electric Supply Company. Besides being a loving husband, caring father, doting grandfather and career man, he was a little league coach, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher and a quiet philanthropist to those in need. His love of the outdoors started on the humble farm he grew up on near Lake Wylie, and continued throughout his life in gardening, hunting, fishing and golfing.
Bill’s family is deeply grateful for the caring folks at Presbyterian Cancer Center, Hospice of Presbyterian Hospital, Partners in Care of the Carolinas, and for all of their supportive family, friends and neighbors.
Friends are invited to McEwen Funeral Home in Pineville for visitation 6pm-8pm on Friday, September 14, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Weddington United Methodist Church. Interment to follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice, Weddington UMC and Morningstar UMC (Steele Creek).
