

On January 20, Yates Webb Gilbert passed away peacefully in his Charlotte, NC home at the beautiful age of 91. Yates was born February 2, 1932 in Lincolnton, NC and later moved to his permanent home of Charlotte where he raised his family. He was a hard worker who enjoyed a successful career building homes as a contractor and spent 20 years with the Charlotte Fire Department, retiring as a Captain. Yates enjoyed golfing, traveling and working on his Model A cars. He loved his family and was always willing to help someone in need.
Yates is survived by his children, Danny and Kathy Gilbert of Charlotte, NC, Terry Gilbert of Denver, NC, Cynthia and Frank Zinke of Belmont, NC and Greg and Anna Gilbert of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Ryan and Tamra Hager, Amanda and Lane Bradford, Jarrod and Megan Hager, Derek and Ashlea Gilbert, Gena and Jason Robinson, Carl Stephens, Dustin Gilbert and Dylan Gilbert; great grandchildren, Carlie, Beau, Ryleigh, Brody, Brelyn, Taylor, Kelby, Colton, Jaxon, Finn and Lexi; great-great grandchild, Christian; brother, Jack Gilbert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in his passing by his wife of 74 years, Helen, parents Claude and Ethel Gilbert, brother Pete; sister, Lib and grandson, Daniel Gilbert.
The family will receive friends at Assurance United Methodist Church, 9700 Mt Holly-Huntersville Road, Huntersville, NC 28078, on Saturday January 27, 2024 at 12pm with the funeral service to follow at 1pm. Burial immediately after service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Yates leaves behind a large family that will never forget the incredible man he was and in lieu of flowers or gifts we ask for donations to be made in his name to Assurance United Methodist Church where he faithfully served.
