Yvonne Annette Mata

Yvonne was born on June 1, 1936, in Charlotte, North Carolina to the late Earl George and Helen Dull. She remained a Charlotte native throughout her childhood and graduated from Central High School.

Throughout her life, Yvonne always prioritized her family. She was the wife to Joe Mata, and she was a proud mother to her three children, Lorraine, Annette, and Duane. Yvonne cherished being a mother and wife to her family. She was overjoyed when she welcomed her four grandchildren and later, five great grandchildren into her family. Yvonne was not only mother to her own children, but she helped to raise a granddaughter, Jessica, and a great nephew, Zachary Duncan. She loved any opportunity to spend time and create memories with her family. She opened her arms and her home to anyone in the family who needed a safe place to land. She made sacrifices to put others before herself, much like her beloved mother, Helen. Her family is so proud and lucky to have had her in their lives. She was truly a remarkable woman and there will never be another like her.

Yvonne was a proud member of Mountain Island Church of Christ, formerly West Side Church of Christ. She loved going to church and being a part of a church community. She abided by Christian values and had a wonderful relationship with her Lord and Savior. In her spare time, Yvonne enjoyed reading a good book, especially the Bible. She also loved solving jigsaw puzzles and word search puzzles.

Yvonne was a loving and generous person to all that knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of faith and family. Yvonne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Yvonne was predeceased by her husband, Joe Mata; sisters, Barbara Wall and Earlene Keese; and former husband, Claude Plyler.

She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Gardner and Annette Whitecotton; son, Duane Plyler; grandchildren, Hannah Parker, Jessica Penninger, Nicole Dyck, Mandy Beavers and Jeremy Keziah; and great grandchildren, Kade Hale, Noah Butler, Lavender Beavers, Ella Penninger, and Ryan Nicholson.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, August 9, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Mountain Island Church of Christ, 4205 Mt Holly-Huntersville Rd, Charlotte, NC 28216, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM. Yvonne will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery.
