Barbara was born on August 22, 1939, in Newton Highlands, MA, to the late Stephen and Martha Hartley. Barbara was raised along with her twin sister Martha in nearby Harrisville, Rhode Island. After High School, Barbara received her associates degree from Virginia Intermont in Bristol, Virginia and went on to pursue a career in nursing. She took great pride in the work she performed as a nurse for both Pediatric Associates and Hospice of the Piedmont. She later helped others through her volunteer work with several local agencies. Barbara enjoyed reading and visits with her dear friends. She always found the time to care and help those in need.
Barbara’s greatest mission in life was raising her three children. Her oldest daughter Beth Lindsay of White Hall, Maryland, Susan Stallard of Wise, Virginia (husband Dave) and her son Rich of Charlottesville (wife Heather). “Grams” also very much enjoyed her time with her four grandchildren Annabelle, Ben, Davison and Lindsay. Her special gifts and love will be missed by all of them.
Barbara is survived by her twin sister Martha Torpey and her husband Dave of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, and their children her nephews Stephen and David Torpey, and niece Jennifer Morse and their families. She is also survived by former spouse, Richard W. Lindsay MD of Charlottesville VA, with whom she raised their children. His care and support was steadfast.
There will be a memorial service for family and friends at the Chapel at Teague Funeral Home on Ivy Road on Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at 11 AM.
Memorial contributions in memory of Barbara may be made to the Charlottesville/Albemarle SPCA, Hospice of the Piedmont, and JABA.
