Bonnie Joy Mays, age 69, passed away on January 4, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. She was born April 18, 1956, the daughter of Reverend Frank Mays and Phyllis Mays. Bonnie was named after Lake Bonnie at Southeastern Bible College where her parents met. She was a gifted musician singing and playing the piano with several well-known gospel groups that performed around the world. Additionally, she established a career with AT&T until she retired. Bonnie loved her dog Sheba and cat Abbey. She would often dress Sheba up in all kinds of outfits for holidays or simply a day out on the town. She is survived by her mother Phyllis Mays, brother Philip Mays, and other family and friends. There will be a service at Teague Funeral Home located at 2260 Ivy Rd, Charlottesville, Virginia from 12:00 to 12:30 pm on Friday 16, 2026, followed by a brief graveside prayer at 1:00 pm at the nearby Oakwood Cemetery. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
