

Franklin Kipps Birckhead died unexpectedly in his home on Sunday October 18. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 35 years, Jacqueline Terrell Birckhead, his sons, Ryan and Kipps, his mother, Bessie Preddy Birckhead, his brother, Landon Douglas Birckhead Jr., and his wife Janet, his niece, Susan, his nephew, Duffy, and his beloved dog, Reagan. Frank was preceded in death by his father, Landon Douglas Birckhead Sr. Frank Birckhead was born on September 3, 1954 in Charlottesville, Virginia. Frank earned a bachelor’s degree in Commerce with a concentration in Accounting from the University of Virginia in 1976. During his four years at UVA, Frank managed the men’s basketball team and contributed to the team’s first ACC Championship as head manager during the 1975-76 season. Frank was a member of the UVA Board of Visitors from 1995 to 1998, and served as chairman of the Audit Committee and a member of the Executive Committee. He was the founder and president of the Thomas Jefferson Society of Certified Public Accountants, and served on the boards of Miller School of Albemarle, the Piedmont Family YMCA and the Senior Center. Frank was a life-long Charlottesville resident, where he worked as a CPA for over 30 years. As founder and CEO of Moneywise Payroll and other local businesses, Frank worked tirelessly to serve the needs of his clients, many of whom became his life-long friends. He garnered friendship and respect from all corners of the community thanks to his great generosity and passion for connecting people. Those who loved him most knew Frank as a deeply caring and passionate man driven by his commitment to family and community. Frank’s passions were many and varied: UVA athletics, particularly basketball, running, causes of all kinds, political campaigns, righting any wrong, and of course Hot Yoga. Frank only had one kind of friend and that was life-long. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be held on Thursday October 22 at 3pm at the family cemetery, located at the UVA Research Park at North Fork (1001 Research Park Blvd, Charlottesville, VA 22911).
