Helen Florine Holsapple

Flo was born on September 14, 1940, to the late Mamie Marie and Erwin Ralph Mertz. She is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Edward “Penny” Holsapple; her three children, Darlene Annette Holsapple, Edward Franklin Holsapple Jr., and Edward Wade Holsapple; her sisters, Alice Marie Mertz-McClelland, Myrtle Stone, Halle Harold; her brothers, Andrew “Andra” Willoughby, Arthur Willoughby, and Austin Willoughby; and her grandson, Shawn Michael Forbes.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Melisa Lynn Reese and Monica Star Forbes & husband Dennis Forbes; her Beloved nephew Ralph Garrison, six grandchildren, Heather Reese, Shannon Reese, Ashley Reese, Kristen Reese, Shane Forbes, and Alicia Forbes; and fifteen great-grandchildren: Gauge Jenkins, Heath Schwab, Jordan Richards, Karter Gaines, Kaylynn Shifflett, Kole Shifflett, Kameron Shifflett, Reagan Reese-Carver, Kali Reese-Carver, Austin Reese-Carver, Michael Reese-Carver, Ty Herring, Trevor Herring, Madalynn Forbes, and Baylie Forbes.

Flo retired from Harris Teeter in 2009. In her retirement, she enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—spending time with her beloved cat, Tootie; cherishing visits from her granddaughter Heather, where they loved using Snapchat filters and making fun videos together; and being outdoors in the sunshine planting flowers and tending to her mini garden. She found joy in her family, laughter in everyday moments, and peace in nature.

Flo’s love for her family will be remembered always, and her warmth and spirit will live on in all who knew and loved her.

A Visitation for Flo will be on Thursday March 5, 2026 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Service 2260 Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA 22903, a funeral service will be held on Friday March 6, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Service with Pastor Lindsay Ellis presiding, Interment will follow funeral service at Holly Memorial Gardens.
