Elaine and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Jack's passing. Janette was the maid of honor at our wedding and we came to know Jack when they first met at Northwestern University.  He always impressed us with his good humor and calm wisdom.  Though we've only seen them once since our college days, that day in 1996 is strong in our memory.  Our condolences go out to Janette and the family.

I was very saddened this afternoon to learn of Dr. Hudson's passing.  Not only was he one of my favorite professors, but I considered him to be a good friend as well.  He was a very kind individual who cared about his students.

My deep condolences to his wife, his children, other family members, and to all who loved him.  He was a great man whom I shall greatly miss.

I just learned of Mr. Hudson's passing.  He was my adviser when I was in graduate school.  He always had a friendly smile and was helpful to his students, mentoring us to be successful in our careers.

May the Lord comfort his family during this time.

I just learned of Jack's passing and am so sorry to hear of this. My condolences to Janette and his family on their loss. Jack hired me into my first faculty position in chemical engineering in 1983. Coming as I did from outside the field, Jack absolutely welcomed me and gave me confidence that I could move into the field and be successful. I am truly saddened at his passing. He was a great friend and mentor.

Jack Hudson was one of my professors during my graduate studies at the University of Illinois.  He was an excellent teacher and kind person, someone whom all the students respected and liked.  In addition to being an outstanding intellect, he was a very good athlete and routinely played on the graduate student IM teams.  Over the years he had a positive influence on me. Jack was the best friend you can possibly have.
He once saved my scientific life by an unprecedented act of public solidarity.
And he was my children's second father.
And we did beautiful lasting things together in science.
Superfat attractors were a joint brainchild. 
And: We started out as competitors, after inventing Belousov-Zhabotinsky chaos each. 
His experimental work led to a Nobel Prize in chemistry won by a colleague. 
He was a saint in disguise.

My thoughts and prayers are with Janette and the Hudson family.  I had the great opportunity to work with Jack for nearly 20 years.   He was a superb scholar, outstanding teacher and colleague, great mentor and an exceptional friend!!   His continued support, wisdom and advice over the many years made him more like a second father.  I will forever cherish the time and memories!  There are two memories that time will never erase.  The first was just after 9/11 when Jack brought in his guitar and led the students, faculty and staff in song and prayers to remember and honor the victims and their families. The second involved a few weekends when I brought my 2 year old daughter into work.  Jack always came out to greet her and to join in a game of hide-in-go-seek.  He had a tremendous love for children and was a very proud and loving father and grandfather.  I will miss you Jack!

We send out thoughts and prayers for the family.  Dan always enjoyed meeting with Jack.  I was always glad for updates on Sarah.

I am very sorry to learn of Jack's passing.  It has been many years since I last saw him but the memories are fresh and pleasant.

Hudson family,

I wanted to share my condolences to all of you. You may remember me from the years I lived on Lewis Mt. Road. Sarah and Barbara surely remember babysitting Maggie at the home of her Mom, Jean.

I saw Jack regularly for decades on the racquetball courts at UVA. He played handball, of course. I played racquetball, so we never competed. But we always chatted. He was always warm, friendly, and sweaty. I enjoyed those brief encounters, and am sorry to learn of his death.

As an ardent Red Sox fan, I'll hope they meet the Cubs in the World Series this fall.

We are so sorry to hear the sad news, Janette, Ann, Barbara, and Sarah.  I first met Jack in 1995 at my university in Beijing. I then became his graduate student in 1996. Jack was a great Ph.D. advisor. I truly enjoyed time with him in the lab being the first researchers discovering patterns and orders in a real world spatial-temporal chaotic system.   

Jack is not only an academic mentor to me, but also a great father figure. He was always there to advice, help and support.  Our children Vivi and Lili will cherish the time with Jack Yeye (grandpa Jack) picking up strawberries, peaches and apples, reading books, playing chess, and walking around the pound ... Jack will be  greatly missed.

Jack was so welcoming to me when I joined UVa in 1990.  We collaborated on several projects during which I was repeatedly amazed with his tremendous intellect.  He was also always willing to provide advice.  We enjoyed a lot of laughs together as well.  Janette and the rest of his family are in my prayers.

I was fold of Jack and will miss his wit and company.  We served on a number of committees where I came to know his dedication and importance to the University.  Now you can oversee things from a more lofty venue.

Prayers and much love to all of Jack's family and friends.  Janette and your precious family, I am holding you in my heart.

Jack arrived from Chicago as Chair of Chemical Engineering and I from Virginia as Chair of Civil Engineering in the late 1970's. We became friends and later spent many evenings together playing duets he on the guitar and I on the violin.  Jack had a beautiful singing voice and he often sang from a looseleaf book of country and folk songs that he assembled, while I accompanied him on my violin. 
Those evenings of song, chats, wine and cheese were a welcome break from our academic responsibilities. Sadly, when I retired in 2009 and moved to California our interactions were diminished.  Jack will be missed and Unni and I send condolences to Janette and the family.
