Kathryn Scholz Grotz of Charlottesville passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016, at the age of 69. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Florence Scholz. She is survived by her husband, George C. Grotz; children, Elizabeth Inman Gehle and her husband, Bruce, Julie Inman Dillon, and Elaine Inman Hogan and her husband, Jason; and five grandchildren, Helen Gehle, Eve Gehle, Jackson Dillon, Luke Hogan, and Lucy Hogan. Kathy was born in Covington, Virginia and was a graduate of The College of William & Mary, where she earned a degree in English and started her first career as a teacher. She resided for 21 years in Virginia Beach, and then relocated to Nelson County and ultimately Charlottesville, where she retired from her career in editing and publishing quality control at CFA Institute in 2013. Kathy was, above all else, a devoted mother and wife. She treasured her years of raising her daughters, and equally treasured the following years spent traveling and exploring the world with her husband and spoiling her grandchildren whenever possible. She was a lifelong learner, an avid reader, an eternal champion for the underdog, and a loyal friend. A celebration of life will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Teague Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Memorial donations can be made in Kathryn’s name to the Charlottesville-Albemarle SPCA or the Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Virginia.
