Mrs. Leach was born on 16 March 1940 in South Boston, Virginia and graduated from Halifax High School in the Class of 1958. She was immediately employed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as a secretary. In 1965 she married and continued to work until her first child was born in 1970 when she paused her career to become a full time mother. After living abroad in both Europe and Asia, she went back to school at Northern Virginia Community College and earned a degree in Accounting, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She resumed her career with CIA as a finance officer until her retirement in 1997 when she left the Washington, D.C. area. She moved to Smith Mountain Lake in Bedford County where she resided until 2019. She then moved to Charlottesville, Virginia to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid quilter, a world class cook in the truest southern style, and was blessed with a wonderfully infectious laugh.
Mrs. Leach is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard B. Leach, two sons Mark B. Leach and Derek B. Leach and their respective spouses Deanna Deane Leach and Allison Parry Leach, 3 granddaughters Anna Marie Leach, Sarah Brooks Leach, and Rachel Laura Leach, 2 step granddaughters, Morgan Hall and Haley Hall, and numerous nephews and nieces in Halifax County, Virginia.
She was predeceased by both of her parents James Brooks Long and Edna Williamson Long, her sisters Frances Hicks, Nancy Perkins, Virginia Collie, Mary Ann Pruett and her brother James Franklin Long.
Funeral arrangements will be determined at a future date.
