On Thursday December 4, 2014 heaven opened the gates to welcome home its newest angel Nanny. With Family and loved ones by her side she slipped peacefully from this life into the loving arms of her Lord and savior to begin her new journey of everlasting life. Born on May 22, 1933 she lived most of her life in the community of Brownscove located in Western Albemarle. She was preceded in death and in their new life by her husband Donald “Duck” Shifflett, her brothers Yancey Rosson and Cecil Rosson and her sister Violet M. Ralston. While she has begun her new heavenly existence she has left behind a host of nieces, nephews and friends whom she so loved and they loved her dearly. Her sisters Martha A. Shifflett and Geneva Batton, sister in law Sylvia Wodford and family and brother in law Ernest Shifflett and family. Although never having children of her own there were several whom she helped raise as her own. Niece Wanda R. Knight, godson Richie and husband Jay whom she made her home with over the last several years, nephew Willie Ralston and wife Shelia who provided Nanny and Duck a home for many years, niece Donna L. Rice and husband Gary, niece Debbie Ballowe and fiancé Roger Fergurson whom she spent every weekend with. She had so many friends that she loved dearly over the years Lucille Norvell and Anna Pritchett her special cousins, great nieces and nephews Chris Rice, Dee Ralston and family, Danny Ralston and family, Chat Hite and family, Megan Dunning and family and Lisa Chisholm and family. Nanny often spoke about how much she loved her family, friends and God. She was a kind, warm, generous and caring soul who knew the importance of life; God, family, loving, being loved and making a difference in peoples lives. “I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don’t borrow from its sunshine, for it’s skies may turn to gray. I don’t worry o’er the future, for I know what Jesus said. And today I’ll walk beside Him for He knows what is ahead. Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand, but I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand” One of Nanny’s favorite hymns “I know who holds tomorrow”. The family would like to thank Nanny’s extended family at JABA here in Charlottesville. Nanny was welcomed into her day family openly and was loved dearly. She looked forward each and every going to JABA to spend time with all of her new friends and the extraordinary staff who loved her as if she were their “Nanny”. The family will receive friends and loved ones Monday night, December 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville. A funeral service will be held at Prize Hill Church on Tuesday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Eddie Deane.
