William Thomas Matheny III

On Monday August 12, 2019, William Matheny, known to family and friends as “Butch”, who was a husband, father, son, and brother passed away suddenly at the age of 51. He will forever be remembered and loved by his wife of 29 years, Laura Thurston Matheny and his beloved daughter Alexandra Matheny who was the light of his life. In addition to his wife and daughter he is lovingly remembered by his mom, Rita Loving and her husband George, his dad, Bill Matheny, brothers, Micah Matheny, Judah Matheny, Jordan Loving, and sister, Jessica (Matheny) Gusler, in-laws, Howard and Thelma Thurston, brother-in-law, Scott Thurston, his wife Cynthia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends. William enjoyed a long career working for the family business, Thurston Plumbing and Heating where he excelled in his field of HVAC while working with customers and business acquaintances for the past 30 years. He was a lifelong fully devoted UVA sports fan and loved watching the Cavaliers play football, basketball, and baseball whenever the opportunity arose. He loved to play golf and enjoyed many fun and competitive games with his Dad and other friends whenever he had time to play. During summers, he absolutely loved spending time at Lake Anna boating and playing on the water with all of his lake friends. Travel was a passion of his and he loved to go anywhere warm and sunny. His favorite beaches were on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and Anna Maria Island in Florida where he spent many vacations with beloved family and friends. He was fortunate to have enjoyed numerous cruises with his family and loved being on the open sea. Anywhere with water was “his happy place". A celebration of William’s life will take place at 2pm on Saturday, August 17th at Teague Funeral Home in Charlottesville and will be officiated by Pastor David Scott to remember him and celebrate who he was. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
