This news breaks my heart. I'm not sure how I would have survived my last year at Oxy, and after graduation when David and I were virtually Mid-Wilshire neighbors (David would correct me here to point out that I was “Mid-Wilshire,” while he was “Beverly Hills adjacent”), without David's fierce friendship, unwavering support, and the wild (mis)adventures David and I shared that brought so much color, joy, and exhilaration to our lives as we searched for our futures in LA. So many stories! David always had a hilarious, mischievous take on whatever horrors might befall us, and knowing I could rely on his delicious cackle as we debriefed later over Kahlua and coffee made everything more bearable. David had more confidence in me than I had in myself and he pushed me to dream bigger. He was such a great friend, an imaginative person, an articulate, delightful, room-brightening man. And somewhere south of all that magnificent hair, there was a wonderful, great big, golden heart. The world is certainly less fabulous today without David, my dear, unforgettable, beautiful friend. Such a terrible loss.

My deepest sympathies to David's family.

I was sadden to hear of David's passing. My prayers go out to the Olearcek family. I had the chance to study abroad with David in France and he spent long hours studying  and of course socializing in our house while at Occidental College. I will always remember him fondly. May you rest in peace cher David.

    I am deeply sorry to hear of David's passing!  Too young and much too sudden!  Please accept my heartfelt condolences and know that I am praying for all of you.  To David:  I love you. I cannot believe you passed on so quickly! I thought we would have time to catch up. "One of these days" is gone now. But I believe I will see you again and you will not be suffering or sad.  You were so much more than a cousin to me David. You were my true, my genuine friend.  Thank you for laughing and being crazy with me.  Thank you for accepting my moods as I always accepted yours. I'm so very sorry to hear of David's passing -- I can still hear his precious, magical one-of-a-kind laugh each week after Spanish class, as he set out to draw the drama of the weekly lesson into comic strip form: the next adventures of Tia Luisa and Pepe...  'followers' of the weekly episodes would ask in the hall between classes, "Hey, have you got this week's episode?"  I spent many lunches and study halls sitting next to him as he created each week's installment for all of his fans, laughing, always laughing... David was one of the most wonderful, funny, kind, sweet and inventive kids I ever had the pleasure of spending time with at Quaboag. As beloved as his given name means, and as beautiful inwardly as his golden locks outward... it is with tears and heart-felt condolences to the family and friends that I say to my former classmate: Lo siento mucho, mi amigo -- audios, y via con Dios.

David was a wonderful friend in high school and I remember him with warmth and laughter.  May God comfort you at this difficult time.

 I know David's death has left you numb and hit you very hard. I pray the Lord take you and your family in His Loving Hands and hold you close to His Compassionate Heart as you mourn David's passing.  May you and your family always be a source of support and comfort to one another. May you be strengthened by our Mother Mary who knew enormous suffering at the death of her son, Jesus.  I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences , David was a friend, a great co worker back at Ocean Edge, in the cook book David put together, and he helped out on many of the catering gigs we did in years past. My prayers for you and the entire family. He had a tremendous sense of humour, work ethic and very professional demeanor, and lord know was great at having fun and keeping a  smile on all those around him. R.Jake Jacobus

I was so sorry and saddened to hear of David's passing.  I was an Occidental College friend of David's and have many wonderful memories of hanging out with him on campus, visiting cultural places in LA, meeting up in Paris and Rennes during junior year abroad.  I was so pleased too that he came to my wedding.  He was always smiling, energetic and lit up a room.  My condolences to you all - he was a bright star who will be missed.

Theresa & family - May you all find peace in knowing that David is in heaven looking down on you.  He had two amazing parents.

No greater loss have I known than the passing of David. May his joy, laughter, enthusiasm for life, and love live in our hearts always. He is now singing Madonna tunes to all in heaven with a perfect voice. May his family push onward and upward knowing that David was a brilliant star, now shining forever in the sky

I worked with David at the then Sheraton Premiere in Universal City, CA in the 80's.  David was so fun to be around.  I was sad to read he passed away and so young.  RIP, David.  xoxo  P.S. I just bought your book on Amazon.

My sympathies to David's entire family at this time of your loss.  I was a college friend of David's at Occidental.  I have so many memories of going out in LA with David, meeting up in Paris and Rennes and being together in French classes.  I was so pleased he came to my wedding. He was always smiling, very alive and upbeat, wanting to go out and experience life. Whenever I would think of him, I would smile at the happy memories.  The world has lost a bright light.
