Born May 1st, 1944, Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Lucille Craig. He is survived by his two siblings, Dennis Craig and Carol Fabian. The family lived in West Orange New Jersey. Joe attended West Orange Mountain High School and was in the school’s first graduating class. Joe played center on the high school football team and was an accomplished drummer lending his talents to local bands including the likes of The Four Lovers who later went on to become The Four Seasons.
Joe continued his education at Montclair State College and earned his degree in History and Business Education. He took his teaching skills to East Orange High School where he taught for 2 years. It was then he left the world of education and entered the business world. Joe’s final position was as American Vice President at Prevost Car, a French Canadian Bus manufacturer. After leaving Prevost he kept himself busy traveling doing consulting in the transportation associated business.
Deciding it was officially time to retire, Joe and Louise built a home in Chatham. Once settled in their new community Joe decided to use his teaching skills once again. He substituted at Chatham High School and later at Monomoy Regional High School. He loved getting back into the classroom and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the students, especially those in the special needs program.
At the time of his death Joe was a member of the Chatham Zoning Board of Appeals. In addition, he was the Chatham representative to the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission. Few things made him happier than to introduce people to the seashore and share all the beauty of this special place on The Cape.
Joe’s passing leaves a heavy heart for his wife Louise, daughter Jennifer, her husband Andrew and their daughters, Maya and Skylar. He is also survived by daughter Heather, husband Doug, and their children Taryn and Ryan.
If you would like to honor Joe’s life and memory the family suggests that you consider donating either individually or through a program which helps make Christmas special for kids in need. It’s a long way off until Christmas but to honor this wish would be greatly appreciated and as Joe felt, it is important to spread a little happiness to those going through a difficult time.
