

She was born on June 22, 1927 in Boston, MA. Mary graduated from the Quincy School of Nursing and later graduated from Bridgewater State College, receiving her Master’s in education. She was a nursing teacher for Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich for many years. She was teacher of the year in 1989. She was the founding president of the Holy Redeemer Guild’s, 40 years ago, member of the Federation of Catholic Women, and Catholic Nurses of Cape Cod. She was chairwomen for Chatham Committee for the Disabled. She was a member of the German Sheppard Dog Club of Long Island, NY. Mary was an avid golfer, bowler, and traveled extensively. She was a navy nurse during the Korean War, where she met and help her husband, Andrew.She was a collector of teddy bears.
Mary is survived by her sons, Thomas A. Mikita of Ashville, NC and Andrew J. Mikita of Harwich. She was the mother of the late Kevin J. Mikita. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her visitation will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. in the Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Redeemer Church,Highland Avenue, Chatham, on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Her burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA at 2:15 p.m.
