

Our beloved Jacqueline Mathis passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, following a long and brave battle with cancer. Her final moments were spent exactly where she was happiest: surrounded by her family.
Jacqueline was the heart of her home—a loving mother, and teacher whose warmth touched everyone she met. She loved sewing, Christmas treasures, and cooking for her loved ones, Her Catholic faith was her compass, guiding her through life's joys and challenges with dignity and poise. Her spirit lives on in the family she nurtured and the faith she shared.
She is survived by her seven children, Anthony Mathis, David Mathis (Elizabeth), Patrick Mathis (Stephanie), Christian Zehner (Anne), Tiffany Gail Mathis, Amber Brittany Mathis and Autumn Gretchen Mathis; her brothers, Charles Ellis Jr. (Dianne) and Michael Ellis (Diana); many grandchildren; and her two beloved cats, Michael and Joan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie Ellis and Charles Ellis Sr.; and her brothers, W.C. Ellis and Johnny Ellis.
Jacqueline leaves a legacy of faith and family love. Her family finds comfort knowing she is with the Lord.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 6, from 3-5 p.m. with Rosary Vigil at 4:30 p.m., Advantage Funeral Home, 1724 McCallie Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
Funeral Mass, Saturday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m., Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, 214 East 8th St, Chattanooga, TN 37402.
Committal Immediately following at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1 Mount Olivet Dr, Chattanooga, TN 37412.
