Josephine Jones

Josephine Wilkerson Jones was born February 8, 1942 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was the youngest of four children and only daughter of James and Annie Wilkerson. Josephine was a 1959 Graduate of Howard High School, Chattanooga, TN. She also attended New York City Community College and City University of New York in Brooklyn, NY.

After marrying the love of her life, Bobby L. Jones, together they relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where they resided for nearly fifty years. Josephine worked as a Postal Services Clerk and was an active member of Christian Cultural Center in New York under the leadership of Rev. A. R. Bernard.

Her family and friends affectionately called her Jo. Jo enjoyed bowling, water color painting, walking, watching T.V. soap operas, and especially reading her Bible. Upon returning to Chattanooga, she and her husband joined Pneuma Christian Center.

Josephine transitioned into glory on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 in a local hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Wilkerson, Sr. and Annie Wilkerson; her husband, of fifty-eight years, Bobby L. Jones; her three brothers, James Wilkerson, Jr., Eddie Wilkerson, and Alfonso "Boot" Wilkerson; and first cousin, Grady Jones.

Josephine leaves to cherish her memory, nieces, Tanya (Kenneth) Wilkerson Marshall of Covington, GA, Wylena (Rodney) Wilkerson Jones of Charlotte, NC; nephew, Alphonso Wilkerson of Charlotte, NC; great nephews, Meshak Calder, Malicai Calder and Isaiah Calder all of Chattanooga, TN; other relatives and cherished friends.

A Visitation for Josephine will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services Franklin-Strickland Chapel, 1724 McCallie Avenue, Chattanooga, TN.

Funeral Services will immediately follow at 12:00 pm.

Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404.
