Born in Decatur, Illinois on March 20, 1940, he was a long-time resident of Traverse City, Michigan and an active member of Bible Baptist Church serving faithfully as teacher and elder. Phil earned his bachelor’s degree at Bryan College his Masters of Theology from Grand Rapids Baptist Theological Seminary and his Doctorate of Theology (in his 70’s!) from Colorado Theological Seminary. He was active with Grand Traverse Men’s Shed until he and his wife moved to Ringgold, Georgia to be near their daughter. He was a faithful Christian, husband, father, grandfather, and friend of many. He will be greatly missed.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Felicity Hobson; brothers, Lynn Meisenhelter, Terry Hobson, and Joe Hobson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary L. Hobson; children, Phillip R. Hobson II, Allison (Shane) Hullender, Paul (Tara) Hobson; granddaughter, Promyss Hullender; sisters, Kathleen Ferguson and Carol Tertocha; other relatives and dear friends.
On July 17, 2021 at Bible Baptist Church in Traverse City, Michigan a visitation from 11:00 am with a Memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm.
