He was born October 22, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to the late Francis and Clarice Brandt.
Richard received his Bachelor's Degree from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. He received his Master’s Degree in Arts in Executive Development for Public Service from Ball State University.
After 20 years of service, he retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Major. Additionally, he was employed for 15 years with the U.S. Army Civil Service as a drug and alcohol psychologist. Major Brandt spent most of his government service time overseas in Germany. While there, he was an avid volksmarcher having walked more than the equivalent distance as the circumference of the earth (47,004 kilometers/29,206 miles).
He was an active member of the Parkinson’s music support group, the Trembling Troubadours. Richard had a life-long love for Southern Gospel music. He was a longtime deacon at Delray Baptist Church in Rossville, GA. His life was truly a living testimony to his Christian faith and trust in Jesus Christ.
His parents-in-law, Ralph and Maxine Tebbenkamp and brothers-in-law, Dickie Rudlang and Jim Schulte preceded him in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Rose Brandt; daughter, Julie Stansel; sisters, Barbara Rudlang and Rhonda Schulte; brothers-in-law, John (Gloria) Tebbenkamp, Tom (Laurie) Tebbenkamp, and Lynn (Ronda) Tebbenkamp; niece, Pam (Dennis) Pruitt; and nephews, Doug Pruitt and Joel (Odko) Tebbenkamp.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 9, 2025 at Delray Baptist Church (784 Steele Rd., Rossville, GA 30741) from 2-4 p.m. Celebration of Life service will begin at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Lavonne Powell officiating.
Interment with military honors will be held Monday, March 10, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery (1200 Bailey Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37404). Please arrive at the Main Office by 1:45 p.m.
