
Jeannette Hardesty (Moran) (nee Knopf), age 96, passed away Feb. 26, 2011, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland. She was born March 14, 1915, in Cleveland. A resident of Chardon Township since 1950, she was a former resident of Lakewood. Jeannette graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1933, and completed a post graduate course in business. She retired in 1980 after 15 years of service as secretary of First National Bank of Burton (currently Huntington). Jeannette also enjoyed many activities and roles. She sang soprano with Lakewood Mothers and in sextet on radio and television, was a correspondent for Geauga Times with by-line, a pianist for Science Church, a pipe organist for Peace Lutheran Church, and an Aquilla Village clerk for four years. She also worked for Halle's Department Store, was a switchboard operator for a large food chain, former Geauga Hospital Auxiliary secretary/treasurer, a coffee shop volunteer at Geauga Hospital, and secretary for Methodist and Pilgrim Churches, as well as the Severance Center Organ Club. Jeannette was a past member of the Business and Professional Club, worked in the log cabin during the Maple Festival, and was active in various clubs including FOE, VFW, AARP, GE Retirement Club, and the 50 Plus Club. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe, the England Isles, the Bahamas, and riding Amtrak out West. Survivors include her son, retired Lyndhurst Police Sgt. Roger Arlie (Laurie) Hardesty; grandsons, retired Air Force Master Sgt. Wayne Hardesty and Kent (Katey) Hardesty CC, RN; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Alan, Norah, Austin, and Aiden Hardesty. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arlie Ellis Hardesty (married 1939, deceased 1973); second husband, Vernon Alonzo Moran (married 1976, deceased 1986); daughter, Martha Jean Hardesty; brother, Robert Knopf; and sisters, Martha Merseles, June Kidd, Viola Knapp and Blossom Schilling. No services will be held. Jeannette's family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of the Western Reserve, to the Wilders Senior Citizen Trailer Park for the use of their wheelchair lift, and to those who attended the jazz celebration for Jeannette on Sept. 16, 2010.
