What I will always remember most about my Grandpa is the mischievous twinkle in his eye. He had stories about driving the nuns in Catholic school crazy. He wasn't much of a student, he said, but they never punished him as much as they should have because they all secretly liked him so much. When I was very little, he was a hilarious playmate for hours on end. In his later years, he would have been the king of the "Irish exit", except he was Grandma's ride : ). So instead he would  suddenly appear in a doorway with his hat and shoes on and say fake-grumpily "Alright let's go". Something about the way he did it always cracked me up... I'm sure the Catholic nuns would be pleased to know how many of their lessons actually sunk in. My grandparents were two of St. Anselm's first and most faithful parishioners. I can't say enough about the integrity and strong values they quietly exhibited in every aspect of their lives. Grandpa loved to be outside, maintaining his home, yard/garden and pool. He was also very mechanically inclined; I remember he always had a project to tinker with on his work table in the basement. My Dad tells me he was an unbeatable horseshoe player for many years. There are more interesting stories about his years growing up in Cleveland and his many various early jobs than I can tell here, but I know I will remember them throughout the years and every time I think of Grandpa I will smile...

John and Helen were our best antique friends.  We did the burton show for years .  Also would see them at early mass at st. Anselms. I know they are both in the arms of our Lord.                                          Dick and Grace Sabransky

God be with you, John. You are now wrapped in His arms rejoicing with your beloved Helen. Remember us left behind. Put in a good word. I will always remember your handsome face, kind way and great smile. You always had energy to give that smile freely! God bless you all.
