Tribute to Joseph Horvath


Joseph Horvath, known to his sisters as “Joey”, the oldest of three children, born to Joseph and Veronica Horvath, was a pure Hungarian.  We lived with our grandparents, which was very common at that time.  Life was different then, which made him the person who he turned out to be, a dedicated brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He loved Hungarian food and was an expert at sult szalonna, making grease bread.  As our father before us, Joe was arany kesek, “golden hands”, who knew how to fix just about anything.  Joe also loved people and loved to tell stories, which he also inherited from our father.  
But Joe also would call his family to task, even his younger sisters.  He made us think.  Joe could be seen at football games, band concerts and recitals with his handy movie camera.  Joe taught us what it means to stand up for what we believe in, which was not always well received.  
Joe was to his wife of 50 years, his children and his grandchildren. 
Joe was also a man of faith, which we attribute to our Mom.  He attended Mass regularly and frequented the Sacraments.  Most recently, Joe was an usher at church and he often spoke to his sisters about how much he was learning about his faith.  During our discussions, we would talk about many topics and found how much alike the three of us were.  More alike than different.  
People at church would ask him questions because he was an usher and because they trusted him.  And he would try to find the answer for them.  
We believe that Joe had a close relationship with God and is now sitting at the table of the Lord discussing his faith.  We will miss you Joe, but you are always with us and we will see you again.  We love you!
