

Leonard S. Powers, 82, a resident of Chester Township since 1964, passed away Dec. 17, 2011 at home. He was born July 26, 1929 in Cleveland. Powers was an active member of St. Anselm Church. He was a third degree honorary member of the Wickliffe Knights of Columbus Council 5405, a fourth degree member of the Cardinal Newman 837 Assembly Lake and Geauga Counties, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1863 of Solon, and a member of the American Legion Palmer-Roberts Post 0214 of Willoughby. Mr. Powers was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force and spent 2 ½ years with the occupation forces in Japan. He worked for TRW, Van Dorn Plastics Machinery, Skidmore Gear Company and Federal Gear. Survivors include his wife, Leona ""Lee""; children, Donna (Ben) Vale Lanza, Lisa (Louis) Virost and Karen (Lonny) Beck; grandchildren, Melissa (Ryan) Hagy, Lindsay, Daniel and Steven Virost and Lauren and Nicholas Beck; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark R. Powers; and grandson, R. J. Vale. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011 at St. Anselm Church, 12969 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2011 at Gattozzi and Son Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Road, Chester Township. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Hospice of Care Corp., 831 South Street, Chardon, OH 44024.
