William Patrick Cloonan

William (Bill) Cloonan of Kirtland, Ohio died on Sunday March 21, 2010 after complications following a heart attack, he was 79. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Joan (Osborn), brother Thomas and Frances of Tampa, FL, twin brother Edward and Janet of Parma Heights, brother James and Carol of Raleigh, NC, sister Patricia and Lynn Orr of Berea, brother Daniel and Linda of Hinckley. Loving father of seven children: daughter Diane and Thomas Warha of Dayton, son Gary and Nancy of Chesterland, son Randy and Drenda of Chardon, daughter Kelly and Kevin Riley of Knoxville, TN, son Timothy and Rhina of Dayton, son Michael of South Russell, and son Patrick and Carla of Kirtland. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Wilhelmina (Soukup). Proud grandfather of 26: Randy, Dominic, Joan, Thomas, Chet, David, Halle, Eric, Taylor, Alexander, Adam, Danielle, Sean, Michael, Noah, Jordan, Angel, Casey, Abbey, Emma, Kristina, Andrew, Michaela, Madison, Megan, and Makenzie and six great grandchildren, Clay, Noelle, Joseph, Ian, Kyrsten, and Brandi. Bill was a 1950 graduate of John Adams High School in Cleveland. He was the successful owner/operator of Cloonan Excavating from 1954 until his death, where he changed the landscape of our community by building hundreds of lakes and ponds. Additionally, he served as a Lieutenant and paramedic with the Shaker Heights Fire Department for 25 years. Bill was involved with the Willoughby Jaycees, was an active member of the Kirtland Athletic Boosters, and was a dedicated member of Divine Word Catholic Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the choir. Bill was a man of integrity and his handshake was his contract. He enjoyed world travel, hunting, board games, writing poetry and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at Gatozzi and Sons Funeral Home, 12524 Chillicothe Rd., Chesterland Ohio on Sunday from 12-2 and 4-6pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Divine Word Catholic Church, 8100 Eagle Rd, Kirtland, OH. at 10:30am Monday, March 29, 2010. Interment services will be at Kirtland South Cemetery immediately following the funeral mass.
