May 8, 1951 – October 3, 2025
Barbara D. Gumiela, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2025, at the age of 74. Born and raised in Chicago on May 8, 1951, Barbara was the loving wife of Robert, devoted mother to Michael (Tracey) and Julie, and proud grandmother to Grace and Jason. She was also a cherished sister to Robert, Sherry, and Thomas, and a beloved aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Barbara was all heart. Whether she was baking someone’s favorite dessert, sewing a Halloween costume, or lending a helping hand during a difficult time, she gave freely of herself to everyone around her. Her kindness, warmth, and ability to make others feel loved were unmatched.
A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and classic movies, Barbara enjoyed watching old films with anyone willing to join her. She was always on the go—never one to sit still when there was something fun to do or someone who needed her care. After retiring, Barbara dedicated herself to caring for her grandchildren, Grace and Jason, taking them on countless adventures to zoos, aquariums, beaches, and movies—always making life a little brighter and more memorable.
To her family and friends, Barbara was “Mom,” “Aunt Barb,” or “Bibzy,” and she was always there to listen, to laugh, and to love with a smile. Her generous spirit, joyful energy, and unwavering compassion will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial visitation for Barbara will be held Friday, October 24, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Ave, Chicago, IL 60634.
