Barbara K. Patrick (nee Reeger) passed away peacefully on May 3rd, 2024 at the age of of 83. She was the loving mother of Frank (Steve) and Rich (Kim); and cherished grandmother to Jennifer (Alex), Chris, Corey, Gregor and CJ. Great grandmother to Kayce and Ryder. Chosen family to Karrin and grandchildren David (Karla) and Kate (Abby) and great granddaughter Elijah. Beloved of Sharon, Judy (Ron) and Pat (Daniese). Dear sister in law to Janice and Patti. Fond step sister to Carolyn. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Godmother to Danny.
Born on December 24, 1940, Barbara grew up in the Lathrop Homes at Diversey and Damen with her brothers, the late Larry and Dave. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1958. A working mother, Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at First Security Trust and Savings Bank for 36 years before retiring in 2003.
Barbara was an active church member for decades at Good Shepherd, United in Faith and most recently, Resurrection, all in Chicago. She served in many roles: choir member, Sunday School teacher, treasurer, council member, assisting minister, communion minister to the homebound.
In retirement, Barbara loved to travel. She made 28 trips in the span of 15 years, and she loved to visit Dave and Patti in Arizona. She enjoyed cruises and guided tours with friends Dorothy and Marlene. She also traveled with family, Jennifer and the Patrick/McKenzie family. Barbara was also quite familiar with slot machines in casinos throughout the Great Lakes region.
Barbara’s greatest passion was for her family and friends. Nothing made her happier than to be spending time with her grandchildren. She loved to have them spend the night after an outing to Brookfield Zoo or another adventure, and feed them her standard fare of Shake and Bake Chicken, a side of corn and ice cream for dessert. Always ice cream. For decades. Barbara loved entertaining family and friends around her kitchen table sharing a meal, playing a game, sharing stories and many laughs.
Barbara loved well and was well loved.
Near and dear to Barbara's heart was the work that the St. Cyprian's Food Pantry did in the community. A visitation for Barbara will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 3309 N Seminary Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657. A funeral service follows at 11 AM at Resurrection Lutheran Church. A private interment.
