Bienvenido "Benny" Lugo Martinez

Bienvenido "Benny" Lugo Martinez, age 85, of Chicago, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024. Bienvenido (Benny) Lugo Martinez was born on August 27, 1938, in Yauco, Puerto Rico. His parents Clara Martinez and Bautista Lugo were instrumental in starting his journey in Puerto Rico. He loved to bowl, fish, and hunt when he was younger. When his mother moved to the United States, Benny followed.

Benny met the love of his life, Ada, in Chicago. He married his beloved wife Ada Lugo on October 4th, 1958; and settled down on the Northside of Chicago. During this time, Benny & Ada had three children Erving Lugo, Edwilda Gomez and Juan Lugo. When Benny was not with his family his occupation was plumbing, making him a great provider for his family. Benny started one of the first Latino self-owned plumbing companies in Chicago and named his company Lugo Plumbing. He was known for the excellence of his craftsmanship and admired for his business knowledge.

Later in life, his hobbies included collecting and restoring his collection of antique cars. Benny loved to see his family together, enjoying the company of several generations of grand and great grandchildren. Benny always stayed connected with his siblings. He came from a strong family that always stayed connected seeing each other frequently. Ada and Benny moved later in life and settled in Orlando, Florida. Ada Lugo passed away December 13, 2006.

On Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, Benny was called home to God. He was 85 years of age. Both Ada and Benny left behind three beloved children, Erving Lugo, Edwilda Gomez, and Juan Lugo. Benny’s legacy will continue through his children and siblings.

Benny leaves behind his son: Erving Lugo, and wife Carmen Sanchez

Grand-children: Armando, Kristina and Erving Jr. (BJ).

Great-grandchildren: Jorrin, DeMario, Layla, Lucy, and Evan.

His daughter: Edwilda Gomez and husband Joe Gomez

Grand-children: Alex, Salina, Olivia

Great-grandson: Angelo Jose

His son: Juan Lugo

Grand-children: Evelyn and husband Robert, Toni Natacha, Pierre

Great-grandchildren: Destiny, Yanitizia, Analia, Lina, King Aswad, Juan Nikolai, Skylar Duncan and Kai

His siblings: Irma Gonzalez, Jose Cruz, Rose Lugo, Carmen Cruz-Martinez, George Rivera, Maryel Gonzalez and departed Johnny Vasquez.

Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Benny that will be held Wednesday, January 24th, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Montclair-Lucania Funeral Home, 6901 West Belmont Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60634.
