My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. Your mother was a beautiful fashionista.  She dressed with style.  Her hair, lips and nails were perfect. I loved her laugh.  She was a working class woman who was married but very much independent. During my growing up there were a few Puerto Rican women who worked and were married. Or worked and were single. I have missed her now for a long time. Two weeks before the announcement of her death, I was talking to my son, Aaron and was talking about Mama Celia, how kind she was to me, how beautiful she was and how classy she was. Una Señora Excepcional que ayudo a muchos. 

Met Cecilia in the 1960's.  My sister married her eldest and i met my husband Orlando (primo de Papo) through her.   i was hospitalized October 1979 and she called and told me that someone wanted to speak to me.  Poor Orlando did not know that i was on the line.  He was shocked to hear my voice and told me he would call me later that night.  it's been 45 years since that call and we are going strong thanks to Cecilia. 

Since relocating to Puerto Rico in 1981, everytime Cecilia came to the island, we would pick her up...she either would stay with us or Orlando would take her to her home of Humacao.  She always came with presents for my children and "the cake".

She was a wonderful grandmother to my niece and nephews...Jackie, Edwin and David.

i pray for peace and comfort for Papo, ita, Weso, grandkids and greatgrandkids.  What a blessing to have had her for 95 years.

This is some of the reason we love you, and will never forget you. It was Sept 1968, my father passed away. 

Cecilia, that evening you came to our house. My mother, my aunt, my brother and I were all crying. You were the only one from the neighbors on Western Ave to come and see my mother and us. You brought us food and hugs.  All that calmed my mother down. The food was delicious as always. You were the only neighbor that did those kind, compassionate, loving and caring things.  We know that it truly came from your heart. I will never forget that day. You even came back the next day. You were like an angel to our family. I remember Papo and Weso’s parties at your house on 1400 block of Western. The food, cake, and ice cream brings me many memories. Also, when you and your husband would dance, I tried to copy your guys salsa steps. Thank you for those steps. 

Through the years, I would see you at St. Aloysius church on Saturday masses. You would say “Frankie, come sit over here”. Your grandkids would go over by you. We also would talk by the medical center on division and western sometimes. You would always stop and ask me about my family and my mother. I will never forget you. You were like a mother to me. Thank you for all your love and kindness that you gave to the world. 

I will see you in heaven when I get there. Save me and my mother a spot next to you. Like at St. Aloysius Church, I’ve shared these memories with my family. If we had more people like you in this world, this world would be a better place. You have touched so many lives.
