Our sweet boy, Charles “Charlie” Addison Botsford was born on September 19, 2023, at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL and passed peacefully in the arms of his parents on October 22, 2025, at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Charlie was pure sunshine — sweet, happy, brave, strong, and wonderfully silly. He filled every room with light and laughter. He loved buttons and beeps, wagon rides, pretzels, scrunchies, and dancing to Itsy Bitsy Spider, Baby Shark, and Bluey. Even through an illness that most adults could never endure, Charlie met every challenge with courage and a smile that melted hearts.
He is deeply loved and forever cherished by his parents, Melissa and Tim Botsford; his obsessively involved aunts Molly (Sam) Johnson and Annie (Joe) Bailey; his adoring grandparents John and Toni Botsford, Peggy (Steve) Thordarson, and Mike (Lynne Brenner) Murrin; along with several other loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends who stood beside him throughout his journey.
Charlie spent the last eight months bravely fighting a rare disease called HLH. He spent 131 days in the hospital and countless hours at outpatient visits since March, including undergoing a stem cell transplant. He was a true inspiration — gaining the biggest fan club and forever family on the 17th floor of Lurie Children’s Hospital.
Charlie’s strength and spirit brought out the very best in everyone who knew him. His time here was far too short, but his impact will last forever.
