

He survived the Japanese Occupation, famine and fled China before Communism overtook the country. At the age of 16, he immigrated to Chicago, reuniting with his father to start his American Dream.His father, Lui Din, a World War Two Veteran, who served under the command of General George Patton, introduced his son to Chicago’s thriving restaurant community.
Mr. Toy helped inspire the Tiki culture at the world-famous Trader Vic’s at Palmer House. For nearly four decades he led the wait staff, becoming popular with the restaurant’s celebrity customers, including Walter Payton, developing a lasting friendship with the Bears Hall of Famer.
Mr. Toy’s wife Kam Sheung Yee passed away in 2013.
He’s survived by his children, William & wife Linda, June & husband Carl, Wilson, and Joanne & husband Peter. Grandchildren, Jason, Peter, Philip, Victoria and Brandon.
A visitation will be held at Drake & Son Funeral Home, located at 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60625, on December 4, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place at the same location on December 5, 2025, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
The committal service will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 North Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL 60660, on December 5, 2025, from 11:15 am to 12:00 pm.
