

George Zervas, age 81 of Romiri, Messinia Greece. Passed peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, July 17, 2025. Beloved husband of Eugenia “Nitsa” Zervas (nee Xarhakos) married 53 years. Devoted son of the late Ioannis and late Kaliope Zervas; loving father of Kaliope (Peter) Simandirakis and Irene (Yannis) Arbis. Proud Pappou of Dimitri, Eugenia “Jenna”, Peter “Petros”, Stavroula “Stavi” and George; dear brother of the late Kostandinos Zervas, late Peter Zervas, late Georgia (George) Fitsalos, Eleni (late Nick) Karabatsos, Nick Zervas, Athanasia (Steve) Mihalopoulos; leaves behind many nephews, nieces and godchildren in Chicago and Greece.
George was a proud immigrant that came to the United States from Romiri, Greece in 1967 after serving as a Sergeant in the Greek Army for a better life. His love for his hometown of Romiri did not go unnoticed. He was truly proud of his roots and incorporated Greek traditions within his own family and always talking of his upbringing and singing “Papalambrena” with his grandkids which the song had originated from his hometown. With his loving wife he built a beautiful legacy raising their two daughters. George was a proud owner of the restaurants George’s Red Hots, Chicago, IL and Winemaker, Oshkosh, WI. He truly enjoyed bartending over the past years where he earned the nickname “Opa” entertaining guests. Most of his proud moments were when each of his five grandkids were born. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids by playing, singing, dancing, and being their #1 fan in their sports. Through his family, his legacy and joy of life will live on.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 22, 2025, at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 10050 Ivanhoe Ave Schiller Park, IL 60176, Immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery River Grove, IL.
