“It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Jean (O’Donnell) Carroll (83), a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who were blessed to know her. Jean peacefully transitioned into Eternity on Sept.10, 2019 after a long prolonged often painful illness. Her fiancée’ Frank, and daughters were blessed to be at her bedside.
For the past 25 years she had resided in Palatine, serving on the condo board and making many great friends there. In June she was blessed to move to the beautiful Brookdale Senior Living facility in Hoffman Estates. There she joined her brother Ken O’Donnell and long time fiancée Frank Arceri to enjoy many of the social activities and making many new friends, even in the short few months she was there.
She was a devout believer in Jesus, and even contemplating in her teens to joining the convent, that was until she fell in love with our dad, and instead become a devoted wife n mother eventually to 5 daughters. She passed down her strong faith beliefs to us to turn to God during good and bad times, that we were never truly alone and to never give up on God or ourselves. Jean was also a very successful Chicago area realtor through the 1970’s-2000’s.
Jean was born, raised and schooled in Chicago, growing up in the Lakeview area, and after marrying Hugh Carroll, they raised their growing family in the Forest Glen and Edgebrook areas of Chicago. She loved to decorate her beautiful home and cook and set a beautiful dinner table but one of her favorite things was to have friends come visit just to share a treat and a cup of coffee or tea. She served on many volunteer boards in her life including the FOP (Faternal Order of Police), St Cornelius and St Mary of the Woods PTA’s. Willow Creek Condo Assoc., and the Chicago Boards of Realtors.
Jean was the deeply loved mother of Margie (Paul Venetico), Judi (Rob Weel), Patty (Dale Wietecha), Sue (Don Dzuirgot) and Dahna (Fennell) as well as Frank’s sons, Don and Eric Arceri. She was a loving and proud grandmother to Nick, Jackie, and Gina Venetico, Dana (Christi) Alyssa (Joe), Ryan Weel, Trisha, Joe Wietecha, Callie, Mike Dzuirgot, Ian Carroll-Potocnik and Ezra and Eli Herrin.
She was a deeply loved fiancée to Frank Arceri, a devoted sister to her remaining brother Ken O’Donnell, and a cherished Aunt and friend to so many. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. We her family thank you for sharing her with us! A celebration of Jean’s life will be held Monday 9/16/19 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with a prayer time/eulogy beginning at 7:00pm. If your able, join us at Malec Funeral Home 6000 N. Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60646.
