Julie was born to the late Mr. Yin Tong Chan and late Ms. Chuen Yip Chan in the city of Kowloon, Hong Kong, China on April 11, 1966. Loving and beloved wife of Johnson Cheng. Loving mother of son Cayle and the late daughter Faith. Julie has two siblings an older sister Sherry Chan (Theodore) and younger brother Steven. Julie has many nephews and nieces. They migrated to America in 1969 to the city of Chicago. They ended up living in Chicago’s Chinatown neighborhood thru the first 18 years of her life.
Julie went to Haines Elementary School from 1971- 1980. She went on to Whitney Young High School from 1981-1984. She went onto DePaul University from 1985-1988. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business.
Julie moved to the northside of the city after college. She went on to work at Ravenswood Hospital as an accountant thru first few years of her career. She left the corporate world afterward where she found her true passion in real estate. Julie went onto own and manage a couple of properties where she leased and rehab multiple apartments on the north side of the city.
Julie and Johnson met at DePaul University. They enjoyed a long courtship where they enjoyed many activities including playing sports, teaching children, working out, concerts, and traveling to many places around the world. They were married on the island of Saint Thomas in the Caribbean on September 12, 2000. They had a daughter a year later by the name of Faith on September 11, 2001. Unfortunately, she was born prematurely and passed away a month later. Due to Johnson work relocation, the couple ended up living in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They were blessed with their second child by the name of Cayle on August 28, 2009. Soon after Julie and Johnson ended up relocating to the city of Houston, Texas where they lived from 2010-2015. Julie’s family called her back to Chicago in 2016. Julie fell ill this past week and went to heaven on October 18, 2020. She is survived by her husband Johnson and son Cayle.
