

Julie Gallagher Donalek died Saturday, May 20, 2023 peacefully at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Peter Donalek, their children, Thomas and Katherine, Tom’s wife, Carolyn, grandson, Benjamin, and Katie’s husband, Eugene. Born to parents, Joseph and Jane Gallagher, May 10, 1942, Julie attended Trinity High School, graduated from Loyola and DePaul Universities, served as a nurse for many decades, before earning her doctorate in nursing from Rush University, then teaching nursing at both North Park University and DePaul University. She also operated a clinic for the unhoused at All Saints Episcopal Church, for many years, serving many and training numerous future nurses. One of Julie’s great passions was politics. She served on numerous campaigns, from aldermanic to presidential, most notably as a highly successful volunteer coordinator on the Obama ’08 campaign.
A wake will be held on Thursday, May 25th, from 4 to 8 pm at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N. Western Ave.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 26th starting at 10am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 4550 N. Hermitage Ave., with Interment to follow at Graceland Cemetery.
