Lisa Georgeta Lebowicz passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, in Galena, Illinois, at the age of 69. She was born on October 28, 1955, in Romania.
Lisa is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Jacob Lebowicz; her stepdaughters, Lora Nicole Stepniewski and Sara Beth Lebowicz; and by numerous adopted daughters and sons—friends of her beloved daughter Ioana and children she cared for over many decades. Lisa was preceded in death by her cherished daughter, Ioana Vivall, who passed away on July 29, 2022.
After moving to the United States, Lisa dedicated her life as a devoted child care provider. Many of the children she cared for remained in touch with her through the years, adding to the joy of her life and extending her family far beyond measure.
Lisa had an enduring love of history and nature, with a special fascination for the medicinal properties of plants and fruits. She delighted in cooking traditional Romanian recipes and spent countless hours learning through documentaries. Her home was always filled with greenery, as she had a gift for keeping houseplants in constant bloom.
Cooking for people—whether for holidays, gatherings, or simply because she felt moved to share—was one of Lisa’s most meaningful forms of community engagement. She nourished others not only with food, but with her warmth and generosity, creating a table that was always open.
She will be best remembered for her passion and laughter in storytelling, her devotion to feeding and nurturing others, and the deep love she shared with her daughter for flowers.
Lisa’s life was one of warmth, generosity, and curiosity about the world around her. Her legacy of love and care lives on in the many lives she touched.
