Louise Eric “Ric” Catral Decal, 45, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on April 27th, 2024 while surrounded in love by his mother and siblings. Ric was born in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines on September 11th, 1978.
As a child, he and his family moved to Chicago, where he remained a proud resident into adulthood. Ric was an avid foodie, often on the hunt for new restaurants to try, recipes to create, and cultures to explore. He would often be heard saying, “I’ll feed you bro,” which was only one example of the ways in which he would serve and care for others. As a firearms enthusiast, Ric loved John Wayne and spending time at the shooting range on his own, with friends, or with family members.
Ric’s love for family was evident to anyone who was lucky enough to cross paths with him in this life. He was in constant communication with his siblings and extended family both near and far. Though Ric did not have any children, he is adored by his nieces and nephews. He would often be heard joking, “I was allergic to kids… until I became an uncle.” A truly kind man and loyal friend, Ric would not hesitate to change his plans to help someone in need. He would often stop what he was doing to help carry a heavy load, pick someone up, or ask if everything was okay.
In recent years, his passion for helping others and his connection to faith spread to volunteer work supporting his community. He was proud of the connections that he made and the positive impact that he had on others’ lives. His actions and words will have an ever-lasting impression on all those who knew him - we “appreciate you Bro.”
Ric is survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Cailey Santiago, Aubrey Santiago, Clark Herrera, Hener Herrera, Alice Decal and Sabrina Decal; his siblings, Tricia (Rian) Santiago, Melissa (Alan) Decal, and Kenneth (Jennifer) Decal; as well as his parents, Maria Corazon and Eric Decal.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation for Louise that will be held on Friday, May 3rd, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Malec & Sons Funeral Home, 6000 North Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago, IL 60646.
