Mark was an incredibly loyal, thoughtful, and caring husband, brother, uncle and a friend to so many. His personality and humor were infectious and he could light up a room with his light-heartedness and quick wit. He had a knack for story-telling, with a sharp memory of the past, and what seemed like a never-ending library of stories in his head that would fill holidays and brunches with laughter.
Mark was a distinguished Army veteran having received the Army commendation medal for his meritorious service as a military policeman. After his time in the military, he went on to work as detective for the Evanston Police Department where he received numerous awards during his 30 years of service for his dedication to duty and investigative work. Mark, or “Kato”, as he was called by his peers, is remembered for his fierce tenacity and for clacking away at the last remaining typewriter in the Evanston Police Department office late into the night.
Mark’s life changed when he met his wife Mary. You could not find him happier than when he had his Buddy Bearette by his side. He lost Mary in 2012, but he never stopped thinking about her, making 3 stops a day to see her after she passed and filling countless journals with daily letters to her.
Life threw Mark a number of curveballs, but he always had a grin and a chuckle to give at the end of the day. He will be remembered for his determination to make the most of every day and for never losing sight of what was most important. He will be incredibly missed by his family and friends who will think of him often but find comfort that he is finally reunited with Mary again.
