April 27, 1931 - December 25, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marylyn Anna Ahlfeld, a beloved wife, mother, and pillar of strength. Born on April 27, 1931, to Anthony J. Osterkorn and Marie Gleixner Osterkorn, Marylyn's journey on this earth concluded peacefully on December 25, 2023. She is now reunited with her late husband, Thomas J. Ahlfeld (CPD), in eternal rest.
Marylyn's life was enriched by her late brothers: Anthony (Dolores), a brave US Naval Pilot during World War II and a dedicated employee at the Illinois Bell Phone Company; Walter "Ox," a triumphant NBA Champion with the Syracuse Nationals; and Johnny.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: daughter Diane Clucas (Dan Clucas), sons Thomas (AT&T), Anthony and his wife Mary (Maher), and Daniel, a member of the Chicago Fire Department and Local 134 and Chicago actor. The late James, though physically absent, remains a cherished presence in the family's heart.
Marylyn's nurturing spirit extended to her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Marylyn worked tirelessly as a homemaker, creating a haven of warmth and love for her family. Her industrious spirit carried her through various roles at the Illinois Bell, Science Research, and Films Inc., where she left an indelible mark with her dedication and work ethic.
Marylyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life— preparing delightful meals, including her famous German potato salad, and opening her heart and home to family and friends. Her legacy is one of hospitality, generosity, and an enduring commitment to those she loved.
As we bid farewell to Marylyn in the physical realm, let us celebrate the richness of her life and the lasting impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration, and may she find eternal peace in the arms of her beloved Thomas. The legacy of love and strength she leaves behind will continue to blossom in the hearts of all who were touched by her presence.
Friends and family will gather for a visitation on Tuesday, January 2, from 4-8PM at Drake and Son Funeral Home, 5303 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL, 60625. A funeral mass will occur the following day, Wednesday, January 3, at 11AM at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 5545 N Paulina Street, Chicago, IL 60640. Interment at Rosehill Cemetery, 5800 N Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL.
