Maxine Latraille Spataro, 82, walked on Monday, September 7, 2020 in Lansing, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Maxine was born Saturday, March 26, 1938 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Louis Napolean LaTraille (Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians) and Inga Marie King (Oneida Nation).
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband George Frank Spataro. She is survived by her children Linda, George, and Sam Spataro; and Destiny Vinci. She is survived by her seven grandchildren Melodi Gimm-Serna, John Gimm, Rachel Gimm, Robert Vawter Jr., George Spataro Jr., Myalynn Spataro, and Sofia Coleman. She is survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
Maxine loved and cherished every moment with her grandchildren. Family was a pillar of her life. Maxine spent many years as an advocate for Native families in the Chicago Community. Maxine served her community by volunteering as a Board Member at the American Indian Center of Chicago. There she also served as Interim Executive Director, Social Service Director, and community volunteer for decades. Maxine will be remembered for her selflessness and advocacy for every Native family in Chicago.
Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2020 at 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Drake & Son Funeral Home, 5303 North Western Ave, Chicago, IL. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at 11:00 am at St. Benedict Church, 2215 W. Irving Park Road, Chicago, IL. Inurnment & Committal Service will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Parkside, 5800 North Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, IL. In consideration of the safety of all our guests and associates, Drake and Son Funeral Home will adhere to the current gathering restrictions in the state of Illinois, which allows 50 or fewer guests at services.
