Our beloved mother, Nadia, was the cherished eldest daughter of Younis and Najiba Al Saiegh. She grew up in Baghdad with her three siblings, nurturing a deep passion for learning from an early age. Nadia's academic journey was nothing short of remarkable. She earned her BA degree in Iraq and was soon after awarded a prestigious scholarship to study in the United States at Pullman State University. There, she completed her MA in Home Economics, forming friendships that would last a lifetime.
Upon returning to Baghdad after her studies, Nadia began teaching at Baghdad University, where she met the love of her life—my father. They married in 1961, embarking on a journey that would be blessed with four daughters. As a mother, Nadia was devoted, ensuring that our needs were always met. Whether it was helping with a math problem or guiding us through the intricacies of drawing a map of Iraq, she was always there with patience and wisdom.
The 2002 war brought about significant changes, and my parents made the difficult decision to leave Iraq and settle in the United States. Despite these challenges, Nadia's life remained centered around her faith, attending church every Sunday, and maintaining close connections with family and friends. One of the most cherished periods of her later life was reuniting with her friends from Washington, who hosted my parents and sister in their homes—a trip filled with beautiful, lasting memories.
Nothing brought Nadia more joy than witnessing our accomplishments, especially seeing us graduate with our degrees. Her love extended even further to her two grandsons, whose births filled our family with happiness. Though we, her daughters, didn’t always see eye to eye with her, the bond of love and support was unwavering and enduring.
Even with the miles between us, the love we share for our devoted mother, Nadia, will forever keep us united.
Thank you Mother for everything you did for us.
John 14:6
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
