Nicholas Anthony Kenworthy (26), devoted son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away February 6, 2026 in Lake Tahoe, California after a tragic skiing accident. Nick was born on March 24, 1999 to William and Catherine Kenworthy in Raleigh, NC. The youngest of three brothers, his enduring kindness, bright wit, easy amiability, joyful laughter, generous empathy, and contagious smile were a constant source of happiness to all those around him. He matured into a driven young man, who pursued the full worth of his talents as a singer, actor, and lawyer. He graduated cum laude from New York University in 2021 as an NYU Founders' Scholar, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama/Theatre Arts at the Tisch School of the Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Politics, and from Brooklyn Law School as a Doctor of Law in 2024. At the time of his death, he was working as a Law Clerk in the California Superior Court of Los Angeles County.
Nick had an unusually incisive understanding of and memory for story, whether told by Chekhov, Shakespeare, a Supreme Court justice, his lifelong friend, or a brand new acquaintance. He was quick to help others in any need. He was an avid outdoorsman and, in addition to skiing, he hiked, camped, kayaked, sailed, and used all the crafts he learned as a Boy Scout. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family: whether listening to music, watching theater, cheering for the Denver Broncos, or exploring new destinations.
He is survived and dearly missed by his father and mother, William and Catherine Kenworthy; his grandparents, Nicholas and Penelope Strakhov; his brothers, W. D'Arcy and Alexander Kenworthy; his girlfriend, Katherine Montes; his uncles, William Strakhov and Randal Kenworthy; his aunt by marriage, Inger Kenworthy; and his cousins, Katherine, Lia, and Ryan Kenworthy. In addition, he is survived and dearly missed by many beloved friends and family members. He is preceded in death by his grandparents William and Lucille Kenworthy, his grandmother Elizabeth Anne Strakhov, and his aunt Katherine Kenworthy.
Prayers for the repose of his soul and solace of his family are greatly appreciated. Family and friends are welcome to attend a wake held at Drake and Son, 5303 N Western Avenue, Chicago, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 22. All are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, February 23 at 10:00 AM at St. Teresa of Avila Parish, 1950 Kenmore Ave. The service will be broadcast online at https://teresa.church/live/. A luncheon reception will follow the service. He will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Denver, CO alongside his aunt and grandparents on Friday, Feb. 27 at 10:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Bald Head Island Conservancy, a place of lifetime joy, at https://bhic.org/ways-to-give/annual-fund/ or by check. Please note “In Memory of Nick Kenworthy” in the comment section or memo.
